Round Rock ISD Press Release
Input Sought in Planning for Bond Election It’s been six years since Round Rock ISD voters last approved a bond election for new schools, renovations and major maintenance to existing facilities, technology, land, and other facility needs. Since then, more than 6,500 new students have enrolled in district schools, and many schools are at or above capacity. To provide funding for more classrooms and other capital improvement projects, the RRISD Board of Trustees is considering a November school bond election. The school board has convened a Citizens Bond Committee to review the district’s capital improvement needs and recommend possible projects to include in a bond referendum. The committee, a diverse group of approximately 100 community members from all areas of Round Rock ISD, has formed six subcommittees to study focus areas in more detail. The committee and subcommittees have been meeting since late March. The subcommittees will report their findings to the committee as a whole May 23 and May 30. The committee will incorporate those reports into recommendations that will be presented to the school board in June. In addition to the committee’s recommendations, board members will consider public and employee input before finalizing the projects and amounts for the November bond election. Community members are invited to attend the committee and school board meetings to provide input. Time for public comments is scheduled during all regular board meetings. The board must call the election by late June to meet election code requirements. In addition, a survey soon will be posted on the district’s Web site. Comments and suggestions also may be emailed to community_relations@roundrockisd.org; faxed to (512) 464-5055; or mailed to RRISD Citizens Bond Committee, 1311 Round Rock Ave., Round Rock, TX 78681. Questions will be answered individually and also posted online at www.roundrockisd.org with other information about the bond planning process (click on the “Bond Planning 2006” link accessible from the home page). To receive regular updates about the planned bond election and other district information, please subscribe to “RRISD E-News,” on the district’s Web page.
