We’re Taxpayers. It’s Our Money.

The Road Goes On Forever and the Party Never Ends, or Goodnight Irene!

As an Aggie, I’m well versed in the music of Aggieland.

Robert Earl King sings of the Road Goes on Forever and the Party Never Ends. This song sums up the attitude of our current School Board – build and build more because they’re coming and we can’t even slow them down. It’s as if the hoard are crashing down the gates and invading and we’re in trouble. And all the while, the district and their partners in crime, the area master plan community developers are smiling ear to ear. Money’s to be made; state funds are rolling into the coffers!

In light of a report conducted by Metrostudy, a Houston-based research group, new housing starts fell 24% in the southern sector of the school district and 14% in the northern sector. Late payments of mortgages are going up and foreclosures are predicted to rise.

Are we going to be stuck with high taxes forever to payoff schools that may never reach capacity? I posed this question when I ran last time: What if the district’s demographer is wrong? What if the economy slows down and we overbuild? It happened in Spring Branch ISD and they went through a massive round of closing schools that to this day, they are still paying for.

For those of you who bought into the straight up growth scenario of the district, you need to now make sure the district is in the hands of fiscal conservatives. We have to spend the bond money only on direct educational issues and NOT frivolous monuments to the irresponsible Board.

Folks, it's time for a change on the "Party Never Ends" Board - vote against Joe Adams and Rebecca Fox! Vote for Cynthia Blackman against Joe and the only challenger to Rebecca - Ross Raymond.

There’s another song that comes to mind from my Aggieland. It’s the Arlo Guthrie song played at the end of a long night at the Dixie Chicken telling all of us college students to get home because they’re turning off the lights: Goodnight Irene
